Councillor No More

On December 2nd 2014, the newly-elected council was sworn in bringing to an end my 2-year tenure as Councillor for the town of Golden. My bid for the office of Mayor failed and so I now comment as a concerned resident and property tax payer. The disappointment of the loss has been softened by the many good wishes I have received. I still hope to be of service to the community in other ways.

I want to share two emails that I received from prominent members of the community which I think expresses the feeling of the majority of my supporters:

"Good morning Keith – I have not had a chance between the election and the end of your term to thank you for your significant contributions to Council and the administrative direction here.  You need to leave knowing that your persistence and voice at the Council table helped to create a new ethos of financial management and I thank you immensely for that.  You will have left a legacy that will clearly reveal itself over time in the financial performance of this corporation in the coming years. Others will not have left such a meaningful mark upon this organization.  Thanks again, and look forward to seeing you on the slopes... "

"Keith, It is unfortunate that you will not be holding elected office over the next term.  As a councilor you set the agenda for the town moving council from promoting projects that were unaffordable to establishing reserves for existing infrastructure.  I cannot recall any other single councilor who has such an impact since I came to town 28 years ago."

My skis are racked, I'm ready to go. All I need is a bit more snow!
